This project focuses on the development of a lighting productcreated for a design startup that works alongside people facing labor market exclusion. The goal was to create a design that could be easily manufactured and assembledby the team, balancing accessible production with a practical, market-ready result.
From initial conceptualization and prototyping through to manufacturing and commercialization, the process was guided by the use of 3D printing as the main production method, directly shaping the form and material qualities of the lamp.

01
concept.
To align with the project’s manufacturing constraints, this initial phase explores how basic volumetric units interact and aggregate around a central core. By testing different geometric patterns and structural reliefs independently around a base, the aim is to imagine how these varied volumetric clusters could capture, diffuse, and direct light.

02
development.
Designed for a straightforward assembly, the lamp is composed of three primary components: the lamp body, the base, and the candle-style bulb.
The lamp body is defined by its modular spherical pattern, which not only creates a distinctive tactile surface but also controls the diffusion of light. Two base options are available to accommodate different design intents: a full-diameter base for a balanced, monolithic aesthetic, and a narrower base to emphasize the volumetric presence and texture of the upper section.
The candle-style bulb is integrated via a standard lamp holder, ensuring a secure fit while maintaining alignment within the lamp body. This configuration allows the light to interact with the layered geometry, producing a warm glow that enhances the atmosphere while maintaining functional stability

product.

The final piece stands as an ambient tabletop light defined by its expressive relief and tactile material presence. When illuminated, the contrast between light and shade reveals the depth of the 3D geometry, transforming the lamp from a functional object into a warm, atmospheric focal point within the space.
assembly
The lamp is designed for easy and intuitive assembly. Start by securely attaching the bulb holder to the base. Then, carefully screw in the bulb, ensuring it is properly seated. Finally, align and fit the upper lamp body onto the base. This simple process guarantees a stable structure while allowing the lamp’s geometric design and light diffusion to function as intended.

customizable
Designed with versatility in mind, the lamp allows for customizable combinations. Users can choose between two base profiles—monolithic or narrow—and pair them with a range of color options to suit various interior contexts.

production and retail.
manufacturing
The process began with extensive prototyping, testing multiple iterations to refine both the geometry and the product’s overall dimensions. Particular attention was given to adjusting material thickness, optimizing it to control light opacity and diffusion. Once the final design was achieved, the model was prepared and streamlined for 3D printing, enabling efficient production of multiple final units.

photography & editing
A comprehensive photo session was conducted to capture the product from various angles and under different lighting conditions. The selected images were then post-processed and edited using Adobe Photoshop to ensure consistency, accurate material representation, and a high-quality visual presentation for the brand.

e-commerce & marketplace
A custom e-commerce website was built from scratch to establish the brand’s visual identity and host its full product catalog. Designed with a clean, intuitive interface, the platform includes a dedicated product page for the lamp featuring an interactive configurator. This allows users to easily customize their order by selecting between the two base styles and different color variations.
Beyond the fully functional online store, the project reached the commercial phase with physical sales successfully carried out at a local market.

personal reflections
Looking back on this year-long journey, having the opportunity to create a design from scratch and guide it through every single stage—from the first rough sketch to holding a finished product sold to real customers—has been an immensely rewarding experience. Being involved in every aspect of the process, from 3D modeling and hands-on manufacturing to digital design and direct sales, taught me invaluable practical lessons at every step. More than just a technical challenge, this project was a continuous learning process that reinforced my passion for practical, impactful, and accessible design.
