This project began with a clear purpose: to make mobility more accessible<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

User gait was analyzed in a biomechanics lab using 18 IMU sensors<\/strong> to capture 3D motion<\/strong>. A representative gait cycle<\/strong> was modeled with 3D body markers<\/strong>, allowing calculation of forces and moments<\/strong> to assess the user\u2019s biomechanical demands, and comparison between prosthetic and sound limbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traditional pin-anchored sockets\u2014the custom-molded interface connecting the residual limb to the frame\u2014often create painful pressure points and skin chafing<\/strong>. Eliminating mechanical pins requires a close-fitting geometry for uniform load distribution, but the wider heel area prevents direct insertion into a rigid, fully closed design.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A pinless split-socket featuring a rear window<\/strong> allows the wider heel to pass through easily during donning. Once the limb is inserted, a custom-fitted cover closes the opening securely using adjustable velcro straps, ensuring a comfortable, uniform fit without sacrificing structural stability.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
